The ancient Greeks and Romans used "Daemon" (say "day-mun") to denote a spiritual guide. These guides or spirits would help you on your life's journey.
Lord Kelvin used the term to describe a sentient being that guarded a hypothetical trap door in a physics thought experiment by James Clerk Maxwell.
Later, MIT's Project MAC followed that thought of a sentient being acting without prodding, and named certain background programs Daemons. These are the programs that keep your system running. They are the programs that act as a human heart would, continuing to pump and run to keep everything alive.
In that vein, we'd like you to think of us as your Daemons. We are here to help you with servers and web development, and we can be here to keep everything running so that you don't have to give it much thought.
